It’s my week at “The House that Stamps Built” for a Project of the Week using a Repeat Impressions rubber stamp. I’ve chosen to use the “Spotlight Technique” for my card using the rubber stamp 912-K Tulip Bouquet. This is really a simple technique but really makes that part of the image “pop” on your card!

20140427-230936.jpg

20140427-231015.jpg

HOW TO:
1. To start, stamp your image twice on two pieces of white cardstock.
2. Punch out the part of the image that you would like “highlighted” using a circle punch. Then color this image as desired. *I used Copic markers on mine and a 1 1/4″ circle punch.
3. Using a punch slightly larger than the first, punch out another circle in whatever color of cardstock that you choose. *I used a 1 3/8″ circle punch for this.
4. Glue the colored circle to your stamped image that you just colored in step 2 and using a Pop Dot place on your first stamped image.
5. Finish your card as desired.

Thank you!

Deonna

Hi everyone!

Cheri here with a new Project of the Week for Repeat Impressions and The House That Stamps Built blog.

I hope you all had the chance to see Brenda’s awesome POTW last week. What an incredible job she did with water coloring backgrounds! Absolutely beautiful, and I will definitely give her technique a try.

This week, I’d like to show you another technique with water coloring – this time on images and with Distress Markers. Many of you have these markers and many of the Repeat Impressions stamps are perfect for this technique.

You may have seen this card I did for Joy’s “Easter Designer’s Choice Challenge”

20140419-201906.jpg

Here’s how that effect is accomplished

Supplies needed: Watercolor paper, waterproof ink, aqua pen or small paint bush, Distress Markers and open line stamp.

20140419-202018.jpg

Step One: Stamp your image with the waterpoof ink on the water color paper then add your first color of Distress marker.

20140419-202126.jpg

Step Two: Add water with your brush or aqua pen, brushing the ink upwards pulling the color slowly with small amounts of water. Some people (including me) like to leave the pen dry and just squirt some water on a waterproof surface like waxed paper, or craft sheet.

20140419-202205.jpg

Step Three: Add your next color and repeat the process until you have the full amount of color spectrum you like.

20140419-202320.jpg

Use a paper towel to blot up excess water from the paper as you go. You can add more water or more color with the DI markers until you get the coloring effects you like. Be careful though…even water color paper has a saturation point. Too much water may pill the paper.

Now, your image is ready to create a card or another project. Have some fun and enjoy this fun technique.

20140419-202402.jpg

The RI stamps I used for this technique are RI# 9203-P “Daisies and Butterflies” and the sentiment is RI #1304-J “Beauty of Spring Time”.

To enhance the flowers and the butterfly on this image I used a glitter pen to highlight those areas.

Enjoy the technique and if you use it, please let me know. I’d love to see what you create.
