Happy Hump Day, crafty friends! I hope you are all having a great week. I can hardly believe it’s the last day of May already. Boy, did the month go by fast for me! Bill continues the struggle to get his AFib under control so we’re still living life in the slow lane and enjoying all this extra time at home. I have to admit, I could easily get used to this lifestyle. And truth be told, I am liking this a whole lot better than running the highways non-stop doing stamp shows. It’s so nice to finally feel rested.  :)

Today is challenge day here again at The House and we’re wrapping up the month with one of my Sketch Challenges. So if you are planning to get inky sometime this week, then we’ve got just the thing to help get you started. Check out my sketch and all the fabulous inspiration cards created by the RI Rock Starsthen play along for your chance to win a Repeat Impressions‘ gift certificate!

Hi everyone, it’s Laurie here and it’s my turn to provide a Project of the Week. I decided to go with the Black Magic technique this time around.

potw52917-lu1

So, first gather your supplies:
White pigment ink
Heat embosser
Solid stamps
Black or dark cardstock
Colored pencils

Stamp your solid images in white pigment ink and heat set. Then color with colored pencils. The technique can call for outlining or adding lines and dots with a white gel pen or pencil, but I decided to keep it clean and simple.

I really like breaking out of my normal coloring rut and doing something different now and again, and this technique is a good way to make images really pop. Hope you give it a try.

Happy Wednesday everyone! Yippee… we’re halfway to the long holiday weekend! With Memorial Day coming up on Monday we’ll be taking time to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. And here in the northeast we also tend to think of this weekend as the unofficial start to the summer season. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so that we can get out and enjoy a little fresh air and sunshine at some point.

But today here at “The House” it’s time to kick off a new challenge. We have one of our easy peasy Anything Goes Challenges this time. So for this week’s challenge the sky is the limit. Feel free to submit any style of card or stamped creation that you wish.

Here are all the wonderful creations the RI Rock Stars came up with to inspire you and get us started.

Wowie!! I just got back from an event for card makers where we learned new techniques and found some fabulous inspiration. Today Wendy, owner of Repeat Impressions has asked me to do the Project of the Week and I’ll show you one of the techniques we learned. Here are the supplies you will need.

potw52217-jh1

1. Mineral Paper – First a little about mineral paper — it’s made from rocks – not trees! It is silky, very flexible and a dream to work with. I can’t believe how soft and creamy it is. This pad is 11×14.
2. Alcohol Inks – in your favorite colors (3-4 colors)
3. Rubbing Alcohol – needs to be the 99% – the 70% doesn’t work as well and tends to just wet the paper.

That’s it for supplies.

Take one sheet and drop your chosen colors one at a time onto the paper in random drops – you can fill the entire page or leave some white areas.

Spray the paper with the alcohol or randomly add drops of the alcohol. It is amazing the patterns the alcohol makes — WARNING — it is addictive! (and fun!)

Then have stamps and dies ready to cut out and stamp – before you know it you will have 8-10 cards made in no time! Great for making card sets to give as gifts.

Here are 6 of the 8 cards I made. The other two will be posted on different challenges.

I used the sentiments Thanks So Much, Hello and Get Well Soon.

potw52217-jh4

These use the sentiments Thanks So Much, time to celebrate and Happy Birthday.

I hope you give this a try. Be sure to wear an apron – alcohol inks stain (ask me how I know). It is fun and I’d love to see what you create!
