It’s time for a new Stamp of the Week! Today we’re featuring our 2711-I Puffins image. Atlantic Puffins are pretty cool and can be a rare bird to see in Maine. Lucky for us there are a few colonies that come ashore to nest and raise their young on our rocky islands for a few months every summer before heading back out to sea. If you ever get to visit the Maine coast between June and August you might want to look into one of the cruises that take folks out to see them. For more information on puffins this Mainebirding site is a good place to start. There are even videos for those who can’t wait for one of the cruises.

Happy Memorial Day! I hope you are enjoying this long holiday weekend. Here in Maine it’s the official start to the tourist season and the weekend we begin opening up our summer homes and camps. And of course today is a day of barbecues, parades, cemetery visits and time to honor all the wonderful men and women who have served our great country.
