Happy New Year, everyone! Here’s wishing us all a happy, healthy and creative 2018! I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for a fresh start. I love beginning a new year and the chance for new opportunities and possibilities. Let’s hope it’s a great one!
In keeping with that line of thought, I decided it was time for a little change here at The House. So we’re mixing things up a bit and putting a new spin on our Mondays. Instead of our usual Project of the Week posts, we’ll now be sharing a Pick of the Week with you each Monday. It may still be a project post, or it could be a technique, a tip, or whatever our Rock Star host feels like sharing with you that week. The new twist is that some of the featured stamps in the post will also be available at a discount to our blog followers for that week. Yay!!
And try not to faint from surprise, but we’re kicking off this new Pick of the Week feature with one of my creations. Yes, it’s true… once in a great while I break out a few stamps and get inky myself. So today I am going to share a birthday card I made for one of my wine loving friends. This style of card is called a Joy Fold Card. I like it because it’s a little bit different, but really quick and easy. Even more so since we offer pre-cut, pre-scored Joy Fold Card Kits over at our Repeat Impressions online store.
Joy Fold Cards can be made as a traditional card or easily be modified to be a gift card holder. Today I am showing you just the straight card version as this card will be paired with a bottle of wine as a gift… but of course!
I used pieces from the Joy Fold Card Kit in Brown Kraft
These 3 stamps from my Wine Time Series:
9503-L, Wine Glass
9502-F, It’s your birthday
Black ink pad
Dimensional foam dot
I started by stamping the wine glass on the outside front of the white pre-scored panel. I then stamped the sentiment and grapes inside.
On the shorter flap of the brown kraft panel I randomly stamped the grapes repeatedly to create a background. I like the look of stamping off the edges so I placed a piece of scrap paper along the score mark to make sure I kept the larger end of the kraft panel clean and unstamped.
I also stamped the grape image on a scrap of brown kraft card stock and punched it out with a 1″ circle punch. (I would normally use the white card stock that’s included in the kit for that, but in this case I thought the kraft color lent itself a little better to my overall design.)
Then I went back and colored the wine glass and the grapes inside the card and on the circle.
I used a little piece of double-sided tape to layer my grape circle onto the center of one of the black pre-punched circles that’s included in the kit.
To assemble the card I affixed the pre-cut black panel in the center of the larger end of the unstamped side of the brown kraft panel. Then I affixed the back of the white panel to the center of the black panel. The shorter, stamped end of the brown panel should then be folded in so that it is tucked inside the white card front. Then I used a dimensional foam dot to attached my layered circles to the stamped portion of the brown panel. Be sure to position it so that the corner of the white card can be tucked under it, thereby creating the closure for the card. And voila! A super cool, but easy card!
