This week’s Stamp of the Week is our #4402-O Damselfly image. And no, although it sounds like it ought to be, a damselfly is not a girl dragonfly. 
A damselfly is an insect very similar to the dragonfly but there are a few key differences…
A dragonfly has a more stout body, and the rear wings have a broader base and are a little larger than the front pair. Its wings also extend to each side while it is perched.
A damselfly, by contrast, has a more slender body. The front and hind wings are similar in shape, and as a result they fly slower than dragonflies do. But the key difference… damselflies have hinges enabling them to fold their wings together when resting which dragonflies cannot do. Bet you weren’t expecting a nature lesson today, huh?!
Damselflies or dragonflies… I love them both for their beautiful colors and their skill at keeping the mosquito population in check in my backyard. And now I can also admire them for how wonderful they look stamped on a card. Just check out these beautiful cards the Rock Stars created to inspire you this week!

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great 4th!! The weather was just spectacular here in Maine all weekend. Bill and I celebrated America’s birthday with a big group of family and friends… enjoyed a dip in the lake and ate way too much good food of course! But holiday calories don’t count, right?!
