Oh my goodness… where did this month go? Is it just me, or is summer zipping right by you too? I can’t believe that it’s already time to introduce our last Designer’s Choice Challenge of July. This week Karen Hasheck is hosting a great style challenge… Sparkle, Glitter, or Bling!

As you know, it’s not always easy to capture all the shimmery goodness on our cards in a photo, but everyone is giving it a shot! Here’s the fun card that Karen created to get us all started.

So a few days ago Karen shared this card with her fellow Rock Stars and asked them to create their own cards with a little sparkle, glitter, or bling. Check out all the wonderful creations they came up with to inspire you this week!

1. Create a card with a little added sparkle, glitter, or bling. And remember, your creation does not have to be made with Repeat Impressions stamps, but if you would like to include our designs we would reeeally love to see them! 😀 Plus, there’s an added bonus… you will get an additional entry in our random.org drawing for using our stamps in your submissions!
2. Post your DCC creation on your blog or online gallery and be sure to reference Repeat Impressions DCC730 ~ Sparkle, Glitter, or Bling! Then link it here with the inlinkz widget below. (Please provide a direct link to your post, not the entire blog.)
3. Submissions will be accepted until Tuesday, August 12th at 5PM EST.
4. On August 13th we will introduce a new Designer’s Choice Challenge (DCC) to play along with and after that challenge wraps up we’ll announce our winner for August. For this challenge the winner will receive any one unmounted sheet of stamps of their choice!

Project of the Week ~ Embossing Folder Backgrounds

Hi there, Melissa here and it is my turn to share a Project of the Week with you here on The House That Stamps Built blog.

This week, I want to share some Embossing Folder Backgrounds with you. Have you ever made EF Backgrounds? If not, they are a tiny bit messy, but a ton of fun. I like to make several at one time so that they are ready whenever I need them.

Gather a variety of embossing folders, inks, sprays, and some cardstock. I like to pre-cut 1/4 sheets of cardstock so that I can make several backgrounds at a time.

Apply the ink to either of the interior sides of the embossing folder, if you would like the inks to “move” around a bit, spritz with a light mist of water. Lay cardstock in folder and emboss.

Look at all of these awesome backgrounds!

Grab some of your favorite Repeat Impressions rubber stamps and have some fun creating beautiful cards and projects.

Here are two cards I made:

I used the Repeat Impressions Tulip Bouquet #912-K and stamped it in black ink and colored with markers. I cut the image with oval and scalloped oval dies and added some pearls and seam binding ribbon as a finishing touch.

I used the Repeat Impressions Nature Quartet #8506-U to create this card. I stamped the image in Rich Cocoa ink and then cut the panels apart to use them separately.

Project of the Week ~ Northern Lights Background

Good Monday morning everyone! Karen here and I am sharing an easier way to get the Northern Lights look as a background on your card for my Project of the Week. I have tried all different ways of getting the Northern Lights look on my cards, but wasn’t happy with the random look when sponging. Then I found an example showing simple up and down sponging and was able to do it with this lovely result.

I created the card base with the largest Spellbinders Labels 4 die after I folded a piece of white card stock in half, not cutting the folded part. Then I cut a smaller white piece of the same shape die for my focal point.

I chose 4 die inks - a yellow, light blue, light raspberry and navy blue for my sponging. I had a different sponge piece for each color. I started with the yellow ink, scrunched up the sponge, applied some ink and sponged up and down in a straight column, moved over and did that twice more. Then I added the blue and raspberry columns, sponging up and down over and over until I liked the look. It is fine if the colors overlap as that adds different colors to the Northern Lights sky look.

Then I stamped Repeat Impressions’ #4221-K Deer Family Silhouette, #2719-K Lg Pine Tree, and #1105-E Thinking of You sentiment in an archival black ink. I created “ground” below the deer’s feet with the navy ink and sponged over the whole piece with a little navy to tone it down a bit. Using a white gel pen, I added some stars in the sky.

If you want an easy way to sponge “Northern Lights” on your card, give this method a try sometime.
